A fair exam with no surprises in terms of exam layout and content.
The physics side of the exam offered plenty of choice for the well-prepared student, with well worded long Questions based on heat and light. Gravity made a welcome appearance in question 2 with straightforward calculations. Question 6 contained the predicted radioactivity, as well as easy-to-follow questions and calculations for capacitors and light waves. The short questions provided plenty of choice, and students who had practised exam questions would have been happy.
The chemistry section again contained well-worded questions. Short questions contained a nice mix from different parts of the course, offering plenty of choice. The atomic theory questions included Bohr’s theory in question 8 and first ionisation energies in question 12. The titration question contained a section on indicators that would have challenged some students. Organic chemistry in question 9 included the preparation of ethyne experiment and question 12 had nice questions on acids-bases, the mole concept and thermochemistry.
Well done to all Physchem students.
