There was a jubilant mood at Yeats College Galway today as students celebrated their Leaving Certificate results. Six students scored 600 points or over, and a total of twelve students scored 590 points or higher.
The Yeats College Leaving Certificate class of 2012 performed superbly with over 43% of students scoring over 500 points, and 67% achieving 420 points or higher.
First-time Leaving Cert student James Hurley from Presentation Rd., Galway City, who completed the two-year programme at Yeats College, achieved the maximum of 625 points, scoring an incredible 8 A’s.
James was thrilled with his outstanding achievement. ‘I’m really happy with my results. The work paid off in the end and I’m hoping to study Mechanical Engineering in NUI, Galway. The teachers were brilliant; they really pushed me to stay motivated and reach my potential’ he said.
Andrea Grealish from Carnmore Cross and Louise Craig from Sligo joined James in achieving 6A1 grades and maximum points.
Galway city student Maeve Cahalan from Menlo was overjoyed to score 595 points. She said ‘I repeated at Yeats College and found the teachers so helpful and accommodating. They really took a personal interest. I’m very happy and am hoping to study Medicine in September’.
Oranmore student Aisling Mc Carthy was thrilled with her fantastic result of 590 points. ‘It was worth all the hard work. I really enjoyed my time at Yeats. The teachers are exceptional and there is such a positive attitude at the school’.
Fellow Oranmore student Stephen Killilea was delighted with his impressive score of 595 points. ‘I’m ecstatic. I’m now hoping to study Medicine in NUI, Galway’.
Leanne Durkan from Roscam was also celebrating her amazing score of 585 points and is now confident of a place on her first choice CAO course of Physics in UCD. ‘I’m quite excited that the big moment has finally arrived and now I have an idea of where I will be next year.’
Aisling Bell from Knocknacarra scored an impressive 575 points. She said ‘I loved it here and I’m hoping to study Medicine’.
Principal Terry Fahy was delighted with the students’ performance and praised them for their efforts. ‘I’m absolutely thrilled and delighted that the students’ commitment and diligence has earned them such exceptional results’ he said. ‘I would like to wish all students well on their transition to the next stage in their lives. The results were truly phenomenal and they were well deserved given the commitment and determination exhibited by all students throughout the year’.
