Course Content

This one-day course aims to provide students with the ideal foundation and springboard for their studies in Spanish, with a view to achieving the highest possible score in the Spanish Leaving Certificate Examination 2023. The course will be divided into three sections:

Essential Spanish Grammar

This session will comprehensively address key areas of Spanish Grammar, focusing on grammar topics that will enhance students’ ability to understand and express themselves in Spanish across all sections of the Leaving Certificate Higher Level Paper. Students will be provided with explanations, exercises and solutions so that they can continue to practise these grammar areas beyond the one-day session.

Writing Tasks

This session will deal with the two most difficult and valuable Higher Level writing tasks: The Opinion Piece and the Dialogue Construction. Students will be provided with extensive notes, exercises and sample answers with a view to achieving a top mark for these tricky writing tasks.

The Oral Exam in Spanish

This session will provide students with an extensive overview of the Oral Exam, which will serve to guide their preparations for this highly valuable component of the overall examination. As well as receiving targeted advice and guidance, students will have the opportunity to put their skills into practice within the classroom context.

In this session students will also be provided with notes and advice for approaching the Reading and Listening Comprehensions.

Leaving Certificate Higher Level French

This one-day intensive course offers essential guidance and insight into the Higher-Level Leaving Certificate French exam, focusing on the reading and written sections.

The class is structured into three key areas:

La compréhension écrite (Reading Comprehension): Worth 30% of the exam, this section will cover key vocabulary and expressions, along with strategies to maximize your marks. La production écrite (Written Production): This section, which accounts for 25% of the exam, will introduce both the opinion piece and diary entry formats. You will receive sample answers and essential expressions to simplify the written component of the exam. For the diary entry, we will focus on the themes of work and travel, showing you how to structure responses, analyse questions, and make effective use of content. For the opinion piece, we will cover two major themes – technology and the environment – to jumpstart your preparation.

Grammar: Finally, we will address key grammar points, helping you write clearly and correctly for the written section and identify grammar elements in the reading comprehension.

This course provides you with strategic, indispensable knowledge to confidently tackle the reading and writing sections of the exam.

Each student will receive exam-focused notes. All exercises and notes will be thoroughly reviewed during the course, and sample answers will be provided to demonstrate how to maximise your marks for the upcoming French Leaving Certificate Examination.

This one-day intensive masterclass will equip students with the analytical skills and creative thinking necessary for excelling in the Leaving Certificate English exam.
