Three year programme

Introduction

The three year Leaving Certificate programme was introduced in response to parental demand for a more structured and examination focused fourth year programme. Feedback from parents and students alike suggested the requirement for a course where pupils could mature emotionally while preparing thoroughly for their Leaving Certificate and third-level journey. We too have found that our happiest students are those that are immersed in a structured environment with all the color and diversity that second level institutions should possess.

Our unique programme allows students the opportunity to complete and sit three of the mandatory Leaving Certificate subjects in year two (fifth year), offering a real opportunity to maximize their potential for exam success. This strategy allows the student to focus unhindered on their remaining six subjects for the Leaving Certificate, thus maximizing points in order to meet their CAO application requirements.

The three year programme allows students the opportunity to embark on third-level education at an age and maturity level that will ensure they are prepared for independent living and more importantly independent study. The additional year of curriculum focused study, motivation and study skills, and recreational activities will give students an excellent head-start, moving them closer to realising their desired third-level choice.

During the three year programme students are given the opportunity to develop and hone their study and revision skills and adopt a mature approach to their Leaving Certificate examinations. This programme will also encourage students to embrace extra-curricular activities and realise their potential in other areas, ensuring a well-rounded education. It will teach them valuable skills and help them to discover their desired career path.

How the programme works…

In year one, students will study eight subjects covering 40% of the course curriculum. A major emphasis will also be placed on study skills and career choices, and students will be encouraged to participate in a variety of recreational activities.

In year two, students will sit the mandatory Leaving Certificate subjects of Irish, English and Mathematics and will study a further 40% of their Primary Higher Level subject’s.

Students in year three will complete the course curriculum for their six Primary Higher Level subjects and will participate in an intensive revision programme for the Leaving Certificate examinations. They will sit their six Primary Higher Level subjects comforted by the knowledge that three of the mandatory subjects have already been completed and with their focus placed solely on maximizing points through their core subjects.
